Richard MacManus - Founder of Read/Write Web The Internet@Me - Internet has changed the way people communicate. A lot of actions like checking emails or answering to VoIP calls are today as natural as watching TV. Moreover, 10 years ago people would say that they could not live without TV; today millions of people and companies could not survive without the Internet. Another observation: unlike the TV world which is more or less comprehensible or at least understandable for the big majority, the Internet remains quite difficult, even hostile for people who are not familiar with it. Of course, compared to the past, the access to computers and to the information is getting more and more easy and friendly. From the questions of “how do I access the information” to “where do I find the information” that companies like Google or Microsoft tried to answer. The next big challenge is to answer to this fundamental question: “how is this information valuable to me?” As well as each individual owns his unique DNA, each individual looks differently or uniquely for information on the Internet. The search of information on the Web became a daily activity for hundreds of million users; and search engines such as Microsoft’s Live Search, Yahoo! or Google are popular because they are answering to the very important question written here above “where do I find the information?” Google in particular is so successful, because it manages to develop a unique search engine that is delivering the best search results amongst the others. The fabulous success of Google is the consequence of the overall quality and simplicity of the results that the information is delivered to users. In other words the best answer gets it all. Today, even the emerging Web 2.0 market is getting popular and very interesting for investors because it brings new schemas for the absorption of the information. But all current methods, whatever is their degree of sophistication, do not succeed in performing three essential missions:
Founder of Read/Write Web –Richard MacManus - recently said: “I hope that future search engines deliver personalized results to me, preferably using natural language. I’m expecting a lot of…”. This was exactly the starting point of our thinking at Semantech: “The Internet @Me”. Corporate Creeds and Mission - Thinking does not cost anything. Thinking wrongly will cost you everything. Semantech is today ahead of the curve as we were already thinking beyond general search boundaries. We have now a unique opportunity to propose a concrete and valuable difference: a knowledge engine. To achieve our goals, today we are in advanced discussion to establishing a strong and long-term partnership with a famous Research Institute. Numerous talented former researchers at this Institute hold today key R&D and strategic positions at leading companies of the IT & Web sector, among them, Google, Logitech, etc. |
